Benefit They're Real mascara

I have wanted to try Benefit’s They’re Real mascara for such a long time. There was so much hype around it when it was released, but I didn’t bite, mainly because of the price. However when the lovely Benefit gift sets came out, I asked for one for Christmas and I got a mini version of They’re Real inside, which I was really pleased with.

To be honest, although the mascara is fairly good in terms of lengthening, but curl wise and volume it’s comparable to most other mascaras.
I find that the brush can be prickly and it’s probably because I’ve not used a plastic brush in so long that I’ve gotten a little too rough with my mascara application, but I find it difficult to get right to the base of the lashes and I have to be more careful with this one as it can hurt.

The little spiky ball at the end of the wand is both a blessing and a curse. It’s fab for getting those little baby lashes in the inner corner of your eye without you smudging mascara all over your nose which I love, but if you don’t wipe off the excess on the ball before applying you get clumpy lash mania.

It’s quite a wet formula which coats your lashes fabulously but it also has a habit of smudging a lot. Once it’s dry it’s a nightmare to work with, including removal. If I’ve got a clumpy bit on my eyelash the natural thing to do is pull the mascara off (don’t tell me you don’t do that!) but this is so difficult that I’ve pulled out quite a few eyelashes, which is both painful and unnecessary. Also I think I’ve removed it all, then hop in the shower and boom I’ve somehow got panda eyes.

I’m honestly not saying it’s a bad mascara, I wanted to like it and I do like it really, but there are definitely others out there that do the same or a better job and are cheaper.

Benefit They’re Real Mascara can be purchased for £19.50 from Benefit counters and Benefit website.
