Illamasqua Loose Powder

Along with the eyeshadow purchase I mentioned last week, within that Illamasqua haul I also purchased this beauty. It was a little bit of an impulse buy I will admit, as my Mac MSF Natural has yet to run out, but I was in a bit of a splurge mood that day.

Illamasqua Loose powder has simple but sleek packaging, (as with all its products) and opening the lid, you will see lots of holes for the powder to come through. They also provide you with a handy puff although I tend to use a brush, I’m seriously considering using it for a heavier touch on concealer to set it.

It is so, so fine, living up to it’s description as being ‘finely milled’. I can best describe it as like talcum powder, both in texture and in colour. It’s also got a very sweet scent to it, which my friend described as smelling like sugar. I’m not sure if that’s an added bonus, but if you like your powder to smell great then this may be the one for you. The other upshot of it being so soft and fine is that you can keep reapplying without your makeup looking too claggy and caked on.

This powder is translucent, but even so it is a little disconcerting to be brushing white powder all over your face. Never fear however, unless you blotted it on thickly with no blending you cannot tell whatsoever.

The finish on this is top notch. It floats over your skin, evening out pores and blurring imperfections to leave you with a fabulous airbrushed, matte finish. The lasting power for oily skinned gals however, I’m afraid isn’t fabulous. I found shine came through after just a couple of hours. I’m not criticising the powder though, I haven’t found a powder yet that will keep my pesky oily skin at bay, in fact I fear I never will.

The only irksome thing about this loose powder, is that well…it’s loose powder. I’m clumsy at the best of times and trying to tip enough out without ending up with powder on my leg can be quite difficult.

Overall, a great powder, gives an amazing finish and smells great. Probably not the best for oily skinned gals if you’re looking for longevity and it’s a bit bulky for carrying about with you.

Illamasqua Loose Powder can be purchased from Illamasqua for £23 and comes in two shades.
