Choosing The Right Foundation
There are several things you should consider when choosing a foundation. Firstly you should work out what your skin type is. You also need to figure out what kind of coverage and finish you would like, whether you want a sheer look (in which case a tinted moisturiser would probably be ideal) or something with a little more coverage.
- When testing a new foundation don’t try it on the back of your hand instead put a stripe along your jawline, let it dry and look at it in natural light. If you can see the colour it’s not the right shade.
- When putting on a foundation you should apply it in natural light wherever possible.
- If you want to look bronzed buy a bronzer, never buy a foundation darker than your skin tone, you’ll just look orange.
- For a less dense foundation mix it with a little of your moisturiser.
- Only apply foundation where you have uneven skintone.
- Apply foundation and blend outwards from face to neck to avoid the mask effect.
- You can use a brush, a sponge or your fingers to apply foundation. Make sure your fingers are clean though.
- If your skin is oily go for an oil free foundation that doesn’t clog pores, which can lead to blemishes (look for the words non-comedogenic). If you have dry skin look for a hydrating foundation.
- You can blend two foundations together to get your perfect shade.
- You can set your foundation with a little powder afterwards.
- If you have oily skin and find that your foundation tends to slide off then Estee Lauder do a double wear makeup which is supposed to stay on until you wash it off
- If you find that you get shine midday then instead of adding more powder which will give a caked effect, use blotting papers to soak up excess oil
