Living In Halls- What You’ll Need
When living away from home, there are quite a lot of things you will need, even with just the basics, so it’s important to make a list of everything you will need.
Different accommodations will provide you with different essentials so it is important you check with them so that you don’t duplicate what they have already provided.
Generally you will be provided with a desk, a chair, a bed, a wardrobe or some drawers and a bookshelf. Then in the kitchen: a cooker, a microwave, a fridge and a freezer.
When making your list you should also organise things into categories such as
- Bedroom
- Kitchen
- Bathroom
- Studying
- Medical
- Documents
This will help so that you aren’t thinking of things randomly which may increase your risk of forgetting something. Also when you think of something make sure to write it down so you don’t forget.
Buying everything can be expensive so ask your parents or relatives if they have any stuff they don’t use that they can give you such as a toaster or a kettle, otherwise go to a discount store and you can usually get really good things there for a decent price.
Storage is another important thing to consider when moving out. Not only is it useful for packing your things up and transporting them to your accommodation but rooms are usually quite small (although ironically my room in my halls was bigger than my room at home) so storage such as under bed storage and over the door hangers are really useful space savers.
