Internet Explorer V Mozilla Firefox
So we’ve all heard the debate about Firefox and Internet Explorer and in my own personal opinion I think Firefox is better. I first started it using it 2 years ago but didn’t use it full time until last year.
Security
Believe it or not Internet Explorer isn’t as safe as Firefox. Most of the malicious plug-ins, spyware and vulnerabilities are programmed for IE because that’s what the majority of the market use. Also because Mozilla Firefox is open source, it means thousands of independent programmers can work on it and therefore create patches before anything can be exploited.
Crashing

Internet Explorer crashes. A lot. IE used to crash a lot for me, leaving me extremely frustrated as I tend to open a lot of tabs and to lose all of those for no reason got me angry on a frequent basis. Firefox hardly ever crashes. I’ve been using it now for approximately a year and it’s only ever crashed a handful of times and not because of stupid reasons like Internet Explorer does.
Tabs
Okay so both IE and Firefox have tabs now, I think Firefox had tabs first. However the benefit of Firefox tabs is that if you try and close Firefox with more than one tab open, it’ll give you the option of saving those tabs for next time, which can be handy if you need to restart your computer or if Firefox freezes.
Add-ons
Firefox has loads of cool add-ons. IE doesn’t have any. In Firefox you can have things like your local weather in your status bar, twitterfox which is an add-on where you can post updates to Twitter without even going to twitter’s site. There’s a W3C CSS Validator add-on, several Dictionary options and even a smart bookmark tool which lets you have tiny icons of your favourites on your toolbar so you can just click them instead of typing in the address. There’s even an FTP plugin for all your site uploading needs.
Overall
- Firefox hardly ever crashes
- Firefox is faster, safer and has cool add ons
- Firefox saves your tabs
And if you can’t quite bear to let go of IE then there’s a Firefox add-on that enables you to open IE tabs in Firefox. See they think of everything.
