Meeting People

Living away from home can be a scary prospect, and it can be an even scarier prospect when you don’t know anybody else especially as you’re going to be living with them 24/7.
The first thing you should know, and probably the most important is that nearly everyone else won’t know anyone either, so you’re not alone!
When you move into your room and you’re unpacking, prop your door open and put on some music. (Don’t make it too loud and controversial) You should also go and introduce yourself to your new flatmates as well as long as they’re not too busy with their families unpacking.

Once you’ve gotten to know the people in your halls or flat or whatever your setup, you should perhaps, with another flatmate, go and knock on the doors of some other people in your building and go and introduce yourself. There’ll probably be parties going on so you and your flatmates should get some drinks and go and meet other people at the parties.

During ‘Freshers Week’ there’ll be a lot of things going on both during the day and the night especially. During the day you” probably have your university registration and inductions where you’ll probably meet people on your course. Also there’s usually a fair which is put on by your student union which has stalls for societies and clubs, and also lots of free stuff.

At night there’ll be special freshers events on so be sure to check them out.

TOP TIP: If you’re going to an event in the town at night where a lot of people will be going be sure to book a taxi ahead of time to make sure you’ll get one.
