Home Remedies For A Sore Throat
I get tons of sore throats and I’ve had tonsillitis a few times too so here’s a few remedies I’ve picked up on the way.
1. Take Painkillers.
Take painkillers every 4 hours, whether it is Ibuprofen or Paracetamol (Tylenol).
2. Use an antiseptic throat spray
These are really useful but don’t use more than the recommended dose, it can make everything numb.
3. Hot Drinks
Take regular hot drinks, whether it’s hot vimto, tea, coffee or a hot toddy. (see below)
Hot Toddy
There are many variations of this recipe but this is the one my mum makes for me.
- 1 tsp honey
- 1 tsp glycerine
- 1 measure of Scotch whisky
- Juice of 1 lemon
- Mug of hot water
Add all the ingredients to the mug and stir well and drink while hot.
4. Throat Sweets
While they don’t really help that much, they can be useful if you’re out and about and can’t get a drink or you’ve forgotten your throat spray.
5. Ice
Sometimes hot drinks don’t work so cold things are the next thing to try. When people have their tonsils out they often have to eat lots of ice-cream. Eating either ice-cream or ice lollies should help numb the pain.
6. Honey & Vinegar
This mixture helps kill the infection in your throat. Be warned! It does taste nasty but it does work!
You should gargle with this and then swallow 3 times a day.
- 1 part honey
- 2 parts cider vinegar
