hey everyone

just a really quick blog but I’ll blog properly when I get home from holiday.

So if you follow me on twitter then you will know that I’ve been having site troubles as of late.
Basically what happened was I didn’t know when this website was coming up for renewal and by the time I checked it was within 7 days of expiring. I had a look at transferring to Namecheap but as you may be aware you cannot transfer a domain within 7 days of expiring.
So therefore I tried to renew with my current host. Then I found out they’d gone bust!!!

At this point I was getting stressed, what on earth was I meant to do!!!
I tried contacting my registrar through various channels to no avail. I tried looking on Whois but because I have whois guard I couldn’t find out who my registrar had gone through. Absolute disaster!

By chance after a lot of research I stumbled across the parent company of the registrar which was publicdomainregistry.com so I lodged a support ticket with them explaining the situation. They got back to me the next day and told me they’d contacted the parent reseller and asked them to contact me within 48 hours and if they didnt then I should reopen the ticket. By this time my domain had 2 days left so I was getting worried

After 48 hours the parent reseller company hadnt replied so i reopened the ticket and pdr were very kind and quick saying that they would shift my account to a new reseller so I could renew the domain. By this time it had expired but you get a grace period of about 30 days where you can renew the domain without any extra charge.
They explained that all i needed to do was give some ID and fill out a form and they would move my account.

I did this and sure enough they moved my account to a different reseller so that I was able to renew my domain

Also I’d like to give a lovely big shout out to my wonderful amazing host Kya for being so helpful when I was pestering her over this. You see I bought another domain http://rainbowcrush.org and I asked her to transfer my account to that domain which she kindly did, and then once I got that back she kindly moved it back for me so I am so grateful to her as well

I promise! that i will update and blog properly once I get home from my holiday tomorrow :)

Im so glad you got it worked out! I saw how upset you were over it and I dont blame you! I know I’d be sad to lose something I worked so hard to create. Even if it was something like a site name you’ve come to love. :)

thanks it wasn’t like I was losing money its more sentimental, I love this name and I cant imagine changing it to something else it just doesnt feel the same. I am glad I got it back though :D

Gosh that is awful luck you had. I mean, the company going bust? I know with the economy and stuff but really? At least it is all sorted now. Just remember to renew earlier, and get everything transferred and backed up sooner!

Kya is kinda brilliant, ain’t she? I always see her hovering about with the wand helping peeps out.

thanks! I know I was quite worried I thought I might lose this forever. Yeah once it’s been 45 days I’m going to transfer it over to namecheap to be safe. Yeah Kya’s the best I felt like such a pest bothering, I seem to be bothering her a lot lately with one thing and another but she’s been an angel :D

Yeah, I guess you’re right. I hope they are bloody grateful after the amount of time it’s taken me to do some bits, haha.

I saw when you were writing on Twitter about your domain problems but I didn’t realise quite how bad they were. That’s ridiculous what you had to go through just to get it back! I would’ve been so annoyed to have all of that happen to me.
Mind you, at least you’ve got it back now. I bet you’re so relieved. :D
